The IEC 61131-3 application is developed with the standard editors. Integrated native code generators (compilers) are used to compile the application code which is then loaded onto the target system. Requirement: The runtime system CODESYS Control has to be implemented on the target system. 

The application can be operated and debugged in the editors or in the user interfaces created in the development system. Customized protocol stacks integrated in the development system handle the exchange of data with field devices. The same applies for example for the configuration of various types of Sercos III devices, regardless of whether the devices have a fixed functionality or a Sercos III field bus coupler with attachable I/O modules.
